The Morinville Jets fell 6-3 on the road Wednesday night to the North Edmonton Red Wings, a club currently sitting in the second slot in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division. Wednesday’s loss bring the Jets down to 8-12-0 this season.
The two teams played to even results for the first forty minutes, ending the opening and middle frames tied 1-1 and 2-2, but the Jets fell behind in the final frame.
In a period that saw the Jets rack up only one penalty with 7:56 left in the game, it was one penalty that allowed the Wings to score a power play goal to pull ahead by one at 7:17.
Though the Jets worked to send the game into overtime, including pulling their backstop for extra strength, they did not get the goal they sought. Instead, the Wings pocketed a pair into an empty Jets’ net in the final minute of play.
The Jets play at home Friday night at 8:30. They will take on the Beverly Warriors, then head out of town to play the Edmonton Mustangs Sunday night.
