Residents evacuated but no fire found

by Morinville News Staff

Fire crews from Morinville, Legal and St. Albert were on scene Saturday night at Morinville Place — 9910-107 Street for a suspected fire.

Crews arrived at approximately 5:30 p.m. and residents were evacuated to the Ray McDonald Sports Center as well as neighbouring local businesses.

Once on scene, fire crews began to investigate the source of the suspected fire.

“A door to door sweep of the building using thermal imagery took place,” said Deputy Fire Chief Joel Houle in a media release issued by the Town Saturday evening. “Fire crews went from the boiler room to the attic. We also used thermal imagery from the ladder truck to get a view of the rooftop.”

No fire or smoke was found during the Department’s sweep of the building.

The site was deemed safe at 6:45 p.m. and residents were notified they could return.

The Town says RCMP and Emergency Services, including Victim Services and Morinville Community Peace Officers were also on scene at Saturday night’s call.

  1. ??? i’m confused. Pretty sure we saw them hosing this place down for a fair amount of time but no fire or smoke?!

  2. That’s exactly what I was trying to say. You can’t see damage now, but if it wasn’t smoke or fire, what in blazes could have set the alarms off to make the condos look like a flickering lit Christmas Tree and set off fire alarms to the point that all of us were evacuated? Don’t get me wrong, I’m very glad no one was hurt. I just want answers. I paid for my condo, I want to know what happened.

  3. Rumor has it that someone left a toaster oven on. L.A., you deserve to know the truth but you probably won’t find it in this publication.
