Hawks best Jets in overtime

The Morinville Jets fell 7-6 in overtime to the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks at home Wednesday night.

The Hawks opened scoring two minutes into the game and pocketed another before the Jets answered back with two to tie the contest at a pair apiece. The Hawks would score again to enter the middle frame leading 3-2.

Though the Jets trailed the second period 5-2 midway through, they came back strong with three in a row to end the frame 5-5.

Capitalizing on a man advantage, the Jets pulled the game to a 6-5 lead in their favour eight minutes into the last period, but the Hawks responded to make it 6-6 with 1:29 left, pushing the game to push it into overtime.

The game became the Hawks 28 seconds after the puck dropped to give the Jets a point for their efforts.

Wednesday night’s OT loss brings the Jets to 13-17-3. Their fifth-place standing int he West is looking like a Jets versus Merchants matchup in the first round of playoffs.

The Jets travel to Sherwood Park Friday night to face the Knights at 8:30, and return to home ice Sunday night to face the Flyers at 6:45 p.m.
