Men with brooms
Scott Mason was on the ice Saturday afternoon. The Morinville Curling Club’s Men’s Bonspiel took place at the Ray McDonald Sports Center Jan. 29 to 31. The event, sponsored by Sturgeon Valley Fertilizers, drew 28 teams for three days of curling. Results were not available by our press deadline.


Moving right along
Work on the interior of the Baptist Church in the Rivet District, located at the corner of Grandin Drive and East View Drive, is well underway.

Passing the bucks

Cory Zeggil of Landrex Inc. presented Morinville Community High School Construction / Fabrication teacher Kyle Coxen with a cheque for $5000, monies that Coxen says will be used to enhance the construction program at the school through the purchase of new and up-to-date equipment.

Open house fun

More than 90 families attended the Open House and Kindergarten Expo at Notre Dame last Thursday night. GSACRD Assistant Superintendent Learning Services David Quick was on hand to welcome the families along with staff members. Sessions were held for Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten, French Immersion, and Pre-Kindergarten Programs. The gym was packed with display booths. Information included GSACRD is Going Google. They have adopted Google Apps for Education to enhance productivity and learning and differentiating learning with Chrome. Faith and Citizenship, Green Team, Physical Education, Counselling Services and other topics were presented with staff on hand ready to answer questions. Above: Warren Maskoske and daughter Calandra purchased eight Notre Dame bandanas from Juliette Inglis.They are a fundraiser for Development and Peace, the Division’s initiative to raise funds to build a school in the Philippines.

Reading together

Celebrate Family Literacy Day took place at the Library Jan. 27 with Sturgeon Family Literacy’s Family Literacy Coordinator Cathy Proulx in conjunction with Morinville Community Library Program Coordinator Kaitlin Erdmann. Family Literacy Day is a National Awareness Day to increase early childhood literacy and the importance of engaging in literacy activities as a family. Stacey Buga and her sons Colton, Mason and Brett were enjoying some of the games.
