Library laughs

The Morinville Community Library held its third annual Library Comedy Show at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre Apr. 9. The licensed event was open to those 18 and older and drew about 80 locals for an evening of laughs to support library programs and initiatives.

web-comedy3This year’s fundraiser show featured improv comedians Julian Faid and Kory Mathewson together with opening act Lawrence Wolf. However, scheduling issues for the headliners put them on the stage as the opening set. The Morinville audience did not seem to mind the switch and laughed at both styles of comedy.

Organizers dedicated the show to Morinville Public Library Board Chair Keith Norris, who passed away Apr. 1. Volunteer emcee Brennan FitzGerald offered a toast in Norris’ honour on behalf of the library board, staff, and Friends of the Morinville Library.

Unlike previous years where the library shared revenues by partnering with the Festival Society to do the show during the St. Jean Baptiste Festival, this year the library decided to run all aspects of the event themselves. Amounts raised were not available by our press deadline.
