Police looking for sign thief

by Morinville News Staff

Almost a month after it occurred, Morinville RCMP are turning to the public for assistance in finding who stole a solar-powered advertisement sign from a rural location west of Morinville.

Police say High Q Greenhouse had attached a solar powered sign to a roadside advertising sign approximately 1 mile west of Morinville on Highway 643.

Sometime on May 27 midnight and 6:30 a.m. the culprit or culprits entered a field on the north side of the road to gain access to the sign.

The solar-powered scrolling sign was removed from the existing sign, which was severely damaged in the process. The culprit or culprits then left through the field and re-entered Highway 643 through the ditch.

The vehicle used, had gotten stuck in the ditch before getting back onto the highway. The vehicle then left the area, East, on Highway 643.

  1. It is quite often that we will receive our first notification of an incident weeks or even a month or more after the crime. We’ve often wondered if they turn to the media when they’ve run out of leads. We are best able to assist in getting the word out and helping them when we are told night away.

    • well, i mean wouldn’t it be better to ask for assistance (if someone saw or knows anything) shortly after it occurred? i can’t even remember what i did 1 month ago and what i saw.

    • That is precisely our point above. Why send a press release to media a month after the incident. We’d much prefer the info from RCMP as soon as reasonably possible.
