Masons Landscaping held their annual Beach Volleyball tournament over the weekend, assembling 20 teams to compete.

Hagel drafted by Sabres

Morinville’s Brandon Hagel was a sixth-round selection for the Buffalo Sabres over the weekend. Hagel comes to the Sabres from the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels and previously played for the AJHL’s Whitecourt Wolverines.

LOGGER SPORTS

A major component of this year’s St. Jean Baptiste Festival was logger sports. Two days of competition saw lumberjacks cutting wood, rolling on logs above a pond, and climbing 30-foot poles. Locals had their chance to try their hand at many of the traditional logging skills, including axe throwing.

FIREFIGHTER CHALLENGE

Ten local and regional firefighters competed in the annual Firefighters Combat Challenge during SJB.

Gibbons Fire Department member Andre Caron had the fastest time this year with 1:38:38.
