Province searching for Alberta’s outstanding volunteers

by Morinville News Staff

Albertans have two months to nominate outstanding volunteers for the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards. The awards recognize the exemplary service of volunteers whose contributions have made a lasting impact on their communities and the lives of their fellow Albertans.

One-hundred-and-three Alberta volunteers from across the province have been recognized with a Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award since the program began in 2000.

“Alberta volunteers are the constant, shining stars in our province. Whether it’s helping those impacted by a sudden disaster, like the Fort McMurray wildfire, or supporting programs that make their communities stronger and the lives of their neighbours better,” said Ricardo Miranda, Minister of Culture and Tourism, in a release Tuesday.

Two awards will be presented in each of three categories: youth, adult and senior. The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards ceremony take place during International Volunteer Day on December 5 and recipients will be awarded at that time.

Albertans are encouraged to submit nominations online or download the nomination form at culturetourism.alberta.ca/stars.

Nomination deadline is Sept. 20.
