Jets take down St. Albert for second time this month

by Morinville News Staff

The Morinville Jets earned their second home-ice win over the visiting St. Albert Merchants this month. After defeating the Merchants 8-1 early in November, the Jets squeaked out a 6-5 overtime win at the Ray McDonald Sports Center Saturday night to bring their record to 11-4-4 and a first-place tie with Beverly, who are one game behind the Jets.

Saturday saw the Jets sporting a new third jersey but trailing the Merchants 2-1 at the end of the first. But the club pounded back in the middle frame to earn another three goals to St. Albert’s single contribution. Now leading 4-3, the third period bounced back and forth between the two clubs until the Merchants tied it up at 5-5 with less than three minutes left in the game. Dean Jones, assisted by Riley Van Brabant and Lee Gadoury pulled the win for the Jets at 3:23 in overtime.

The Jets play Beverly on the road Wednesday night and face the Flyers at home Sunday at 6:45 p.m. They end the month Nov. 30 on the road with the North Edmonton Red Wings.
