Division 5 could see new representation this fall. Former Bon Accord CAO Vicki Zinyk registered a Notice of Intent to run in the Fall municipal election. She will be running in Division 5, currently occupied by Patrick Tighe.

Zinyk has lived in Sturgeon County;s Division 5 for 11 years, and says she has a passion for working with people, building consensus, community development and promoting growth.
She currently holds the positions of General Manager of North Parkland Power REA (a local rural member-owned power provider) and CEO of ACE (an Alberta energy retail cooperative). In addition to being in her third term as a member of Sturgeon’s Economic Development Board, she has held professional roles within both the private and public sectors over her 30 plus year career.

The candidate says her background ranges from business and investment development to more recently working with municipal government – she was CAO of Bon Accord for more than seven years.

“I understand the meaning of service, community engagement, regional cooperation, and accommodating change,” Zinyk said of what she would bring to Division 5 representation. “My municipal experience has given me insight into the workings of municipal departments, their relationship with elected representatives, and their responsibilities. With that and the knowledge I have concerning the Alberta Municipal Government Act, the Act under which communities are managed and governed, will contribute in making appropriate, prudent and efficient decisions affecting Division 5 and Sturgeon County.”

Zinyk said her platform centers on using a collaborative approach between ratepayers, Council and Administration on issues including land use, responsiveness, and cost-effective services that reflect the needs the County.
