September a busy month of cultural centre activities

An Active Living Fair, celebration of grandparents, Oktoberfest and Alberta Culture Days are all on tap for September at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre

Showcasing The Community

The activities kick off with the annual Active Living Fair on Sept. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event is hosted by Morinville Community Services and is an opportunity for the community to showcase the spirit of Morinville. Local organizations, community groups, agencies and businesses that provide services within Morinville take part in the event.

Residents will be able to obtain registration information at the various booths and register for some of the groups and activities on site.

Those interested in showcasing can call 780-939-7839 to book a spot.

Celebrating Grandparents

Next up is Grandparents’ Day on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The new offering invites grandparents to come out with their grandchildren to enjoy snacks, activities, and an opportunity to make something together to take home.

Community Services is offering the event for free; however, they are asking people to pre-register by calling Community Services at 780-939-7839.

Alberta Culture Days

Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 is Alberta Culture Days. Among a variety of activities around town, the cultural centre will host four.

On Friday, Sept. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. the centre will host an All-Ages Masking Tape Canvas Paint Night & Art Displays hosted by the Morinville Art Club.

At 7 p.m. the Morinville Community Cultural Centre will hold a Family Movie Night featuring the Canadian Animated Film Spark: A Space Tail. Concession food will be available from the Friends of the Morinville Library Society as a fundraiser for the library.

On Saturday the Town will host its annual Oktoberfest. The free fun family friendly event takes place Sept. 30. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner catered by the Green Bean takes place at 6 p.m. and live entertainment will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to Oktoberfest are available at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre.

On Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2:30 p.m, the KAIROS Blanket Exercise will take place.

This is an opportunity for residents to learn about the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. This event is free with limited spots. As such, registration is required.
