by Stephen Dafoe

Morinville residents Amber Dyck and Monique Lavallée were awarded the Medal of Bravery and the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, respectively. They are among 123 Canadians honoured by the Governor-General the Right Honourable Julie Payette on July 1.

Canadian Bravery Decorations symbolically express Canada’s gratitude to those who defy the instinct for self-preservation and risk their lives to save or protect others. Queen Elizabeth II created the award in 1972.

Amber Dyck received the Medal of Bravery for rescuing her infant from a house fire in Morinville, May 15, 2019.

The Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers recognizes exceptional volunteer achievements and commitments across Canada.

Monique Lavallée received the Sovereign’s Medal for her efforts to ensure equal access to sports for all children in her community since 2001.

The physical medals will be received at a later date
