Rock’n August Country Cruise tours through Morinville

Rock'nAugust Country Cruise

The Rock’n August car show, a staple of summer entertainment in St. Albert, regularly draws many Morinville and Sturgeon County residents south to enjoy vintage vehicles. But this year the cars came to Morinville and Cardiff.

Leaving Century Casino in St. Albert at 2 p.m. Saturday, the Country Cruise of more than 100 classic vehicles headed to Edmonton Garrison, then to Cardiff on Highway 2. After making a loop through Cardiff, the vehicles drove through some Morinville neighbourhoods. The Country Cruise finished in Legal with an end loop at the Chateau Sturgeon Seniors residence.

Organizer and Rock’n August board member Rick Dory told Morinville Online that feedback on the Country Cruise has been very positive.

“Was great to see a good turnout of folks who were able to take in the cruise and awesome to see the “thank you” signs and smiling faces of so many residents,” he said.  “As a board, we did our best to try to include as many residents of St. Albert and surrounding areas as the logistics would allow. Lots of different cars, happy drivers, happy residents, wrong turns, U-turns, lost cars, found cars, broken cars and the odd burnout came together to make for a truly memorable week.”

Dory said they are not sure what Rock’n August’s 25th Anniversary will bring next year.

“Whatever happens, this year will definitely be remembered as the “year that almost wasn’t” turned into “the year we were able to scrape together one heck of a show. Thank you, Edmonton Garrison, Cardiff, Morinville and Legal for your tremendous support and mark next year’s 25th Anniversary RocknAugust week on your calendar. It promises to be the biggest and best one yet. Thank you to Morinville Online too for helping to get the word out there, it was very much appreciated!”
