Sturgeon County’s Shelby Pierce wins Foresters Financial Scholarship

Foresters Financial, a 146-year old fraternal life insurance company, announced Shelby Pierce of Sturgeon County as a recipient of a $2,000 scholarship, as well as being eligible for $8,000 over four years.

Pirce is attending the University of Alberta this Fall. She won her scholarship with a GPA of 2.8, and importantly, her time spent volunteering coaching a junior high girls basketball team.

The Foresters scholarship program is a special benefit offered to Foresters members (insureds). Members, their spouses, children and grandchildren are all eligible to apply for consideration for an annual scholarship.

“On behalf of the entire Foresters family, we congratulate Shelby for her outstanding academic achievements and profound support for the Sturgeon County community,” said Jim Boyle, President and CEO of Foresters in a media release announcing the scholarship.  “Giving back to our communities through volunteering, especially during challenging times, is of paramount importance. The dedication of Shelby is an inspiring example of how someone’s initiative can make a difference in the lives of so many others. As the insurance company with a mission to help others, we award this scholarship with pride and appreciation for Shelby’s accomplishment and wish her great success in the years ahead.”

Two-hundred-and-fifty students received $480,000 this year. The majority are US students, and 81 are from Canada.

Since 2012, Foresters has awarded over 6,000 tuition scholarships internationally, an investment of more than $15 million.
