The Royal Canadian Legion Morinville Branch No. 176 kicked off its annual Poppy Campaign on Friday night.

On hand for presentations were Morinville Deputy Mayor Ray White, Legal Mayor Trina Jones, Morinvlle-St. Albert MLA Dale Nally and members of the Legion Executive and Committee members.

Presenting poppies were Morinville Legion 1st Vice President Mike Adams, Executive and Service Officer Lisa Adams, and Committee member Steve Butt. Also in attendance were Poppy Chair Carol Gabriel and Sgt-at-Arms Mark Pasqualetto.

First Vice President Mike Adams said once the mayors had received their poppy as representatives of the community, the Legion could move on with its poppy sales.

“The branch can now move forward with selling their poppies and the act of remembrance,” Adams said. “People are more than welcome to purchase a poppy. They can wear it for as long as they want, whatever day they want, in their own act of remembrance.

“If someone feels so inclined, they can wear their poppy at any given time. It’s not just for November to remember the troops. I know some Silver Cross mothers who wear it year-round to remember their fallen child, husband, daughter. They can wear that poppy any time they want.”

The Poppy Campaign raises thousands of dollars to assist and provide support to veterans and their families.

Next weekend the cadets are scheduled to be at a few key locations with the poppy trays.

This year the new poppy tray has the option to tap your card for a donation.

Something new this year with your poppy is a story you can view.

You can discover the story on your poppy at https://poppystories.ca.

Simply go to the site and scan and line up your poppy and the story of a veteran will appear. You can also view the story of many veterans on the site.

If you do not wish to scan your poppy, you can proceed and read the story of many Canadian veterans.
