Letter: If you build it, the will come…

I just want to say thank you to our Town Administration and Councillors for their continued effort on April 28 in getting information out to the public in regards to a Regional Recreation Facility. I know that the citizens of Morinville are interested in this topic, and are getting even more interested, as I am involved in, or hear discussions regularly around town as well as read the comments on different social media sites…. Letter: Regional Recreational Complex or a Local Arena/Curling Complex?

Morinville Council is rapidly moving forward on a decision that will have an important effect on the long-term growth of Morinville and Sturgeon County. This decision will be to either start building a replacement Arena/Curling complex right away ( inside Morinville boundaries) or work with Sturgeon County, Legal, Bon Accord, Gibbons, Redwater and a variety of ‘other groups’ to develop a more comprehensive Regional Complex that would probably proceed within the next three years… […]

Letter: Be creative for Earth Day

Editor:

With Earth Day upon us, and a very strange winter full of rain and extreme cold drawing to a close, now is a good time to think about the environment. It doesn’t matter whether you care about climate change, or how dedicated you are to keeping your little part of the world clean; it’s simply about changing thinking patterns. Instead of buying something new, packaged in obscene amounts of plastic, styrofoam and cardboard … […]

Letter: Petitioners upset with advance vote location

Who decides where the advance voting polls are set up – Council or Administration or both?

How convenient to have the 2nd advance voting poll at the Rendez-Vous open on Saturday April 12th from 10:00 until 4:00 right during the heavier traffic times for people going through the Trade Show… […]

Letter: Ask the experts

Morinville residents who attend this weekend’s Morinville Trade Show have the opportunity to get information and to ask questions on photo radar enforcement at the Town of Morinville’s booth. It is time to separate FACT from FICTION. There seems to be a consistent message in the media comments made by those opposed to photo speed enforcement. They want you to vote “yes” to eliminating it! Their suggestion is that the RCMP and Community Peace Officers fill the void left by the removal of photo speed enforcement. What would this mean for the residents of Morinville? Who better to ask than our local Experts on this subject matter… […]

Letter: Rumours, Rumours and more Rumours

I have been a resident and a taxpayer of Morinville since August 1st, 1981. I have been a very active volunteer in my community, having been involved with hockey, baseball, the Museum, the Historical Society, and numerous community projects and events.

During the past municipal election our present Mayor and Council said they wanted to interact with citizens, get out into the community and listen to whatever issues or concerns residents wanted to discuss… […]

Letter: What I love about Morinville

Dear Morinville News Editor;

I recently saw a Facebook post by a young woman I was able to assist in relocating with the involvement of the JMMF last summer and fall. This young woman fled extreme abuse in her third trimester and was here on a temporary VISA in a country not her own. She had no resources, knew few and stumbled into our community… […]

Letter: Photo radar not about safety

After taking in all the discussion about photo radar, we all must make our own decision, and mine boils down to one factor. Safety.
I’m not talking about a reduction in speeders. If you change a speed limit from 50km/hr to 60km/hr (as was done on 100 Street by No Frills), you’re going to have a reduction in speeders, but that improvement isn’t due to photo radar… […]

There have been quite a number of articles, letters and comments published concerning the upcoming photo radar vote on April 14th in Morinville, with many statistics and other statements made in support of retaining photo radar. Some of these however are questionable. […]

Letter: Sturgeon Midget 1 Mustangs win bronze

Congratulations to these 16 young adults whose dedication and hard work won them the Bronze Medal.

The 2013 / 2014 hockey season started out with many uncertainties. Our team started out with nine players, and two coaches. The rush was on to find more players and goalies. The week of our first tiering game our team was finally complete with the addition of two players released from… […]
