Chris Hadfield coming to Bon Accord

The first Canadian astronaut to walk in space will be walking around Bon Accord this fall. The community announced Wednesday that world renowned astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield will be part of Bon Accord’s Equinox 2016 on Sept. 24.

Col. Hadfield, who has logged 2600 orbits of the earth, lived in space and on the ocean floor, will be the annual festival’s keynote speaker. […]

Donations from Ontario and the UK assist Cadets in Vimy Fundraiser

3061 (1 CER) Morinville Army Cadets are a little closer to heading to Vimy next year for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Richard Hughes flew in from Southampton, Hampshire United Kingdom and made a cash donation of $2000 in Canadian funds and brought equipment and supplies from the UK to the 3061 (1 CER) Morinville Army Cadets. The presentation, which included rucksacks, ponchos, can openers, field message pads, sporks and other items, was made May 24 at the cadet practice meeting held at the curling rink. […]

Fingler reflects on year as Rotary president

Rotary Club of Morinville President Sheldon Fingler has enjoyed his year of wielding the club’s gavel but says he is looking forward to getting back to being a rank-and-file member.

“I feel that when you sit up at the front, you sometimes lose touch with everything else that’s going on in the club,” Figler said, adding the Morinville club is an active one. “When you are sitting at the front you are more worried about following the rules and keeping things in line and covering all the bases. I don’t get to have as much fun as I like to.” […]
