Raising funds for local sports proves to be snow much fun

Cardiff – Though many slo-pitch players would probably wish the snow would just go away so they can put cleats to grass and shale, it did not stop softball players from hitting the snowy fields at Cardiff Hall recently for the annual Sno-Pitch fundraiser for Youth Basketball. Sixteen teams took to eight makeshift diamonds for the yearly tournament, an afternoon of sports followed by an evening of food and music. Meeting set to discuss Cardiff intersection

A private meeting has been scheduled for Nov. 18 to discuss the future of the Cardiff Corner intersection. MLA Maureen Kubinec, the Minister of Transportation, Honourable Ric McIver, Mayor Lisa Holmes, Sturgeon County Mayor Tom Flynn, and Deputy Mayor Gord Putnam will all be in attendance. Shortly after Council’s Swearing In Ceremony on Oct. 29, Kubinec said that she had spoken with McIver who agreed that a meeting should be set to discuss further development of the intersection in order to make it safer. Arson suspected in Cardiff fire

Cardiff – Sturgeon County Deputy Fire Chief Pat Mahoney said a fire that destroyed a Star Key Place home last Friday may have been arson.

“It’s still under investigation,” Mahoney said. “The RCMP were on scene as well and it’s believed to be arson at this time. There was one male individual that was taken into custody for it.”

The Deputy Fire Chief said the fire, which broke out around 12:45 in the afternoon, was the third fire in the Cardiff area that day.
