Unlike Morinville, Gibbons, Bon Accord and Sturgeon County, who hold separate elections for mayor; Legal continues to elect five councillors whom then elect the Town’s mayor from within at their organizational meeting.

Riviere Qui Barre – With the close of nominations Friday, well known columnist, editor and publisher Link Byfield was acclaimed as the Wildrose Alliance’s candidate for the Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock riding. Byfield is best known for his 18 years as editor and publisher of the Alberta Report, for being the founder of the Citizens Centre for Freedom and Democracy, and for being one of the founding members of the Wildrose Party when it began three years ago.

Government funding to help Chamber attract tourists

Morinville – The province is sending $70,000 the Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce way, grant money from the government’s Department of Tourism, Parks and Recreation that the local business group will use to fund a Regional Tourism Action Plan (RTAP).

Chamber President Sheldon Fingler said he was pleased but not surprised to receive the funding announcement from Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock MLA Ken Kowalski last week.

Morinville celebrates its mayoral heritage

Morinville – Bagpipes and Red Serge preceded the Honourable Ken Kowalski into packed council chambers June 22. Kowalski, Speaker of the Alberta Legislature and Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock MLA, was given the honour of investing Morinville Mayor Lloyd Bertschi with the Town’s first chain of office, new ceremonial regalia that pays homage to Morinville’s administrative and mayoral heritage.
