Morinville – A local businesswoman, substitute teacher, community volunteer and mother of two is running for a seat on Morinville Town Council. Jackie Luker, who ran in the 2010 general election and 2012 by-election, is taking another crack at a seat on Council.
“It’s just a desire to be part of that whole process,” Luker said of running a third time. “I want to make a difference from what I can do. I have a very strong belief in what community is. To me, small towns are what make Canada great. You need a small town with a community feel so that people get involved. I want to be part of that process to get people involved in Morinville.”… […]

Morinville – Former Councillor Joseph Trapani will be running for a Council seat in the 2013 election. A resident of Morinville since 1996, Trapani is a widower with two children, Jessica 23 and Christopher 22. Trapani was first elected to Council by acclamation in 2007. He lost his mayoral bid against incumbent Lloyd Bertschi in 2010 by a 141-vote margin.
Trapani said he believes those who run for office should do so for the good of the town and not for their own agenda or future political ambitions. “You have to love and care about the Town of Morinville and not be afraid to tell the world that you are from Morinville and are proud of it,” Trapani said. “Be a candidate because you care and not because it would look good on your resume.” … […]

Next, congratulations to Mayor Lloyd Bertschi and to the six councillors. Having read all the articles that have been written in Morinvillenews.com and attending the All-Candidates Forum, I believe that all 10 people who ran for councillors should be congratulated for coming forward and hope those that didn’t win will come forward again in the next election.
Regardless of the outcome on Monday I just wanted to thank my friends and family for being supportive of my decision to run for town council. I would also like to thank Morinvillenews.com for the extensive … […]

I was sitting on my neighbour’s porch a couple weeks ago having a chat. Naturally, the topic of the election came up and I learned that she had never voted in her entire life. The conversation drifted on to other topics, but about a week ago I was back on the porch having a coffee and asked her what she was doing Oct. 18.

Morinville – Candidates were out over the weekend using a variety of methods to get their message out. Individual candidates went door to door, jogged through the streets in campaign t-shirts, stood on the side of the road playing air guitar and one used telephone auto diallers to mechanically make their pitch.
QUESTION ADDRESSED TO MORINVILLE COUNCIL AND MAYORAL CANDIDATES
During the all candidate forum I heard the majority of the discussion and questions around youth, teens and young families. Having studied demographics many times during my working career and looking around in Morinville, I would estimate that the “senior” group will soon equal if not surpass the young families. […]

“They’re all the same, these politicians. They make promises and then don’t keep them. So my vote really doesn’t matter. Besides, I simply don’t follow it all and really don’t know who stands for what.”
Sound familiar?
