Morinville – The 2011 St. Jean Baptiste Festival got off to a solid start Tuesday night with a spirited and spiritual performance by Aboriginal singing group Broken Walls. The three-piece band of Joseph Maracle, Bill Pagaran and Kris DeLorenzi come from Ontario and Alaska. Two of the bands members are from Ontario. 2011 St. Jean Baptiste Festival to be major event

Morinville – The annual St. Jean Baptiste Festival will increase in size and scope in Morinville’s centennial year. That was the word from St. Jean Baptiste Committee Vice Chair Paul Smith Tuesday night.
Smith made a presentation to Morinville Town Council to bring them up to speed on what the committee of 30 volunteers are lining up for the summer festival which will run from Tuesday until Sunday this year.

Festival numbers higher than anticipated

Morinville – The figures are in from this year’s St. Jean Baptiste Festival and festival chair Joel Chevalier couldn’t be happier with the results.
“Our goal was about 2,000 and we have estimates anywhere between 2,500 and 3,000-something went through,” Chevalier said of this year’s festival goers, adding that reports indicate there were times when the popular children’s game and craft tent had approximately 200 children under the awning. “You couldn’t move.”
