Council approves requested school locations after emotional debate

After a lengthy and often emotional debate, Council has decided to go ahead with two new school sites that were both requested by their school boards.

Council passed a bylaw that would transfer to Sturgeon School Division their preferred location adjacent to the current Ray McDonald Sports Centre for a new public middle school (Grades 6-9). The existing arena will be demolished as the new recreation facility east of Town is ready.

MPES seeking Council funding for new playground

At Council’s last meeting before summer recess, Leah Elzinga, President of the Morinville Public Elementary School (MPES) Parent Fundraising Association, made a presentation on proposed new playground equipment to meet the needs of the rapidly growing school, and made a financial request of Council to help support the project. While council confirmed no funding at the meeting, they unanimously supported a motion to have Administration investigate ways the Town might be able to financially support the new equipment and return that information for Council’s August meeting… […]

Morinville – The Town’s deteriorating tennis courts, located at 100 Avenue and 101 Street, could be staying where they are after all now that Sturgeon School Division has put forth some more agreeable terms to help the Town restore the courts to a usable condition. Roots from the surrounding poplar trees have broken through the tennis court surface, creating tripping hazards and rendering the courts unusable. Morinville – The Town’s deteriorating tennis courts, located at 100 Avenue and 101 Street, could be ripped up and replaced with new ones at Bob Foster Park or another location in town.
