UCP roll out student transportation task force

Alberta’s UCP government was struck a task force to provide recommendations to the government on the future of student transportation across the province. The UCP says the focus will be on a number of issues, including student safety, costs, eligibility, partner collaboration and the responsibilities of school authorities and industry partners.

NDP says Cargill meat plant reopening does not have worker support

The Cargill meat processing plant in High River will reopen on Monday, although nearly 16 per cent of the province’s COVID-19 cases to date are associated with the plant’s workers. As of Wednesday, 821 of the province’s 5165 cases were workers at the Cargill plant, and another 276 cases are among workers and contractors at the JBS plant in Brooks.

NDP call on UCP to support businesses as 250,000 lose all income in March

Citing new data they obtained from Statistics Canada, the NDP Official Opposition say 254,000 Albertans had their income reduced to zero in March. The NDP says the Stats Canada figures indicate 137,000 Albertans are technically still employed; however, they have had their hours reduced to zero, bringing the total number of Albertans who have lost income to 254,000.

NDP and McKenzie Towne families call for centralized response

The NDP Official Opposition called on the provincial government Tuesday to immediately provide a centralized response with hazard pay for workers in seniors facilities, priority access to PPE, and stress tests for facility operators’ pandemic plans in response to the rising number of fatalities in Calgary’s McKenzie Towne.
