Greater St. Albert Catholic School Board Chair Noreen Radford made a presentation to Council Oct. 13 to inform them the division had nominated the town of Morinville for the Alberta School Boards Association Friends of Education Award.

According to the ASBA’s website, the Friends of Education Award “recognizes individuals or organizations who are demonstrably committed to improving education for Alberta students and who have made a significant contribution to education in Alberta.

In her presentation, Radford provided a list of areas her board felt Council and the Town had supported education, including advocating with the province on cuts to education, supporting mental health for youth, and for their individual and collective involvement in school-related activities.

After the presentation, Radford presented Mayor Barry Turner with a certificate acknowledging the nomination.

Morinville has recently received two awards. The 2019 MarCom Platinum Award for the Town’s new website, and the 2020 Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) Dedicated Senior Team Award.
