Family Day events carry centennial theme

Morinville – Families packed the Ray McDonald Sports Centre Monday for the annual Family Day Snowman Festival.

In addition to the annual titular snowman competition, residents had an opportunity to lace up their skates and take to the ice as a family, spend some time playing broomball, and enjoy some of the centennial cake and cupcakes the Town of Morinville laid out for residents.

This year’s event carried a centennial theme with the Town of Morinville’s youngest and oldest resident on hand to meet the public.

Thalia Fischbach moved to Morinville from the Bon Accord area about six months ago and will celebrate her 100th birthday in May. Jayden Wood was born Jan. 2 and is not only Morinville’s first baby of the New Year but also the town’s centennial baby. Fischbach and Wood were recognized by Mayor Lloyd Bertschi and council.

Capping off the day’s activities was the centennial photo. Residents and town staff lined themselves up into a giant 100 in honour of Morinville’s 100th anniversary.
