The Sturgeon Mustangs took to the ice Sunday afternoon for a home game against the visiting (4-0-0) Wainwright Polar Kings. The contest ended in an 11-0 defeat for the Mustangs.

Jets two for five to start the season

Morinville – After earning back-to-back victories on their opening weekend, the Morinville Jets have had a string of three losses to bring their early season record to 2-3-0, a situation that puts them in fifth place in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Division.

The club took to the road Friday night to play the Beaumont Chiefs in a contest that ended 4-3 in the Chiefs’ favour. The Jets ended the opening frame leading Beaumont 2-1, but two into the back of the Jets’ net in the second period reversed the club’s fortunes, leaving the Jets trailing the Chiefs 3-2 at the end of the frame. Though the team capitalized once again in the third, a similar result from Beaumont gave the Jets their third consecutive loss.

The club is averaging 4.4 goals per game and giving up 4.6. The Jets have scored 22 goals in five games, veteran Justin Proulx leads the pack with five goals and seven points. Brett Kampjes leads the team with five assists.

Although the Jets sit fifth in the division for wins, they lead the West Division in penalties with 287 minutes. Their sin bin tally puts them in second place in the league, right behind the Fort Saskachewan Hawks. Ian Gadoury currently leads the Jets in penalties with 46 minutes in the box.

The Jets took on the Edmonton Mustangs during a Tuesday night home game in Morinville. results were not available by our press dealine. The Jets follow that contest with another home game, set for Oct. 13 at 6:45 p.m. against the (2-1-1) Leduc Schwab Riggers.
