RCMP focused on impaired driving this month

Sturgeon County – The Morinville RCMP Detachment will follow the province’s Traffic Safety Plan Calendar into December with a focus on impaired drivers. Each month the calendar focuses on a different aspect of traffic safety; impaired driving is the focus in August and December each year. Impaired driving extends beyond drugs and alcohol to not being alert due to lack of sleep or medication.

Morinville RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Tom Love said his members are ready to be on the lookout this month. “We have a number of Stop Check programs we’re going to be running throughout the holidays into January,” he said. “We’re going to be out throughout the whole district. “It is a Detachment and community priority, impaired driving. It is a priority for the community and for the police.”

But Love and his members are not the only ones who will be fighting to keep the roads safe. The Staff Sergeant recommends motorists to report activities they deem suspicious. “We recommend phoning in. we have a tremendous amount of people who are doing that already,” he said. “We appreciate that and we will continue supporting when people give us a call. We will do our best to be able to assist.”
