The Morinville Senior AA Kings first game after the Christmas break was the club’s first defeat in seven outings. After six consecutive victories, the Kings fell 5-2 on Saturday night to the visiting Slave Lake Winterhawks, a club who heading into the contest were sitting with a 4-6-1 record.

But Sunday’s road trip to face the Rocky Rams was the outcome the club was looking for. A 4-1 road win propelled the Morinville Kings to first place in the NCHL’s North Division and in in the league overall.

The Kings next take to the ice Friday night in an away game with the Devon Barons, a club who will be looking to unseat the Kings from the top spot. The club returns to home ice Saturday night to face the Athabasca Aces. Game time is 8:30 p.m.

Morinville Jets topple Icemen

The Morinville Jets took to the road Sunday afternoon to take on the Wetaskiwin Icemen, returning with a 4-2 victory for their troubles. The win brings the Jets’ season record to 11-14-2. The club is currently sitting in 5th place in the Capital Junior Hockey League’s West Divison and tied for 9th place in the league overall.

The club has a heavy week ahead on the road to winding down the regular season.
