Morinville – Champion Petfoods announced Wednesday it will be investing in a new off-leash dog park in Morinville.
“We’re committed to supporting Morinville families, and dogs are members of the family too,” said Champion Petfoods President and CEO Frank Burdzy in a release Wednesday. “We’re very proud to be a part of this community and to help make it a wonderful place to live, raise a family, and do business.”
Funding for a dog park was included in the Town of Morinville’s 2014 Budget, with $50,000 allocated towards the project. Champion’s $20,000 additional investment will help ensure the park meets the needs of all Morinville residents and those with cherished pets.
“Requests for an off-leash dog park have been brought forward several times over the past couple of years, but it has always been dropped from the budget,” said Morinville Mayor, Lisa Holmes. “This year with the additional sponsorship from Champion Petfoods we will be able to finally make it a reality.”
A location for the park has not been finalized but Champion will ask the Town to consider naming the dog park after Champion Petfoods founder and his son, Reinhard and Peter Muhlenfeld. “They are wonderful men,” Burdzy said in Wednesday’s release. “Their business acumen and philanthropic spirit will help Albertans for generations.”
