2015: A look back at some Community Champions

2015 was a year of accomplishment and milestones in Morinville. As this sampling of Community Champions stories from the past year show, there was an abundance of anniversaries, people starting and ending long careers, and making the community proud with professional, philanthropic, and volunteer successes. We are proud of those who work so hard to build Morinville into an ever better community.

Samantha Olson became the second lawyer to be called to the Bar in Morinville May 1, 2015.

Morinville Catholics gathered on the steps of historic St. Jean Baptiste Church July 9 to seal a time capsule to be opened in 2057, the church’s 150th anniversary.

G. H. Primeau celebrated the District’s 150th with a time capsule in January. Principal Allan Menduk will be 87 when it’s opened in 2065.

Pastor Lou and Shirley Brunelle said goodbye to Morinville Christian School in June after 39 years of faith-based teaching, much of that in Morinville.

Lawyer Andrew Lawson’s Old Guys in Action group raised $44,000 for Cause Canada’s efforts with maternal health in Guatemala in October.

Chad Melchert and son Morgan were busy in September. Chad was off to the CCMAs where he won drummer of the year. Morgan played baseball with Team Alberta’s U15 team in Manitoba.

Morinville Community High School’s MCTV News celebrated its 20th anniversary in March. Morinville placed in Hockeyville’s Top 10 the same month.

Former G. P. Vanier students started planning early in the year for the school’s 40th Anniversary Reunion. The event took place during SJB 2015.
