By Lucie RoyMorinvillle – The Seniors Halloween event held at the Morinville Legion Oct. had approx 60 people in attendance. For those in costume the judging was made by their peers and the amount of noise they made as they cheered them on. Best Dressed Halloween costumes went to Edith Kowalski and Gilbert Savard. The tickets and names of those in attendance went into a large cauldron where names were drawn for the door prizes. Every senior and volunteer at the event also received a souvenir Freedom of the City Key and a pin, compliments of the Morinville 100th Anniversary Celebrations Committee.
For those from the lodges that required transportation the bus was available to pick them up. The seniors were treated to a meal of stew, cake and ice cream, refreshments and snacks as they were entertained. Three children, Jenna McKinney, Payton Reid and Ryley Reid performed numerous numbers dance numbers, including the Cha Cha Slide, Hokey Pokey, Jelly Bean Song, Chicken Dance, Head & Shoulders Knees and Toes and Itsy Bitty Spider. Edmonton Opera singer Krista Lessard sang at least three numbers: Somewhere My Love, I Only Hope, and Amazing Grace.
The tables were well decorated in the Halloween theme along with two packages of spooky stuff, jokes and pages of creepy crawly facts. Old time music played in the background.
This was the second of two Morinville 100th Anniversary Celebration events held by the Legion for the seniors. The intent was to include Morinville’s seniors as much as possible in this celebratory year.
