Morinville – Whether inside or outside, on the sidewalk or on the trail – Morinville residents like to run. With warmer days upon us and streets swept and cleaned, residents can be seen jogging and running throughout the community to keep fit or to get fit.

On any given evening, men, women and youth can be seen getting their run on throughout town. For those looking to get into it all slowly, Thursday evenings are set aside at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre for the Run for U program, a seven-week program that began in mid-April. The program takes the beginning runner from 30 minutes of running/walking at the beginning of the course to 45 minutes by the completion.
Running is one of the best activities one can do for heart and body and is an excellent form of exercise for those looking to shed a few pounds. Running and cross country skiing is considered to be the most effective activities for burning calories. Like other impact exercises, running also increases bone density, something of concern to many people as they get older. Beyond the physical benefits of the activity, running is a great way to shake away the stress at the end of the day or prep the mind for the day that lies ahead.

It is an activity that requires no real travel other than from your door to wherever you wish to run to, and the start-up costs are not prohibitive.
