Morinville – With new furniture and new expanded space to be unveiled soon, the Morinville Community Library is looking to update their logo. They are holding a logo contest from now until Aug. 24. The winning logo designer will receive a $100 Visa gift card and the satisfaction of knowing their graphic design work will represent the community’s library for years to come.
Assistant manager Cheryl Pasechnik said she and the library staff are excited about the new library and a new logo to represent it. “We’re changing the logo to express that we are a community library and that we are more than just books,” she said. “We’ are just so excited about the new library and how awesome it looks. We just want to portray that to the rest of the community.”
Since the last logo was designed some years ago, the library has changed along with its counterparts in the province. No longer merely a collection of books and periodicals; the library now embraces new technologies to make available audio and electronic books, video games, movies, and plenty of Internet surfing.
Although the new logo need not incorporate all the items that make the library an information hub in the community, it needs to represent the two themes common within the facility: the library is more than just books, and the library is the heart of and serves the entire community.
Pasechik said the logo should have clean lines and be easily understood no matter how small it is. It should include the colours that are in the new library: blue, green and red. The logo may be designed in any medium; however, it should be clear and concise.
The contest is open to all Morinville library card holders as well as all residents of Morinville and Sturgeon County. All ages are welcome to apply.
Submission forms are available at the library, including a template to design the logo on. It is requested that the logo fit on a 6″ x 8 inch rectangle. The design may be designed horizontally or vertically.

Designs are to be submitted to the Morinville Community Library reception desk by 6 p.m. Aug. 24.
The final designs will be selected by board trustees and some patrons. It is planned to have the selected designs on display for final selection once the library is fully opened around the end of August.
