The day in photos

Saying farewell
Wednesday morning’s Year End Celebration at École Notre Dame Elementary School was not only a farewell for students moving on next year; it was farewell for a few teachers as well. Gisele Boddez is going to École Marie Poburan in St. Albert. Counsellor Kiersten Cote will be dividing her time between Neil M. Ross and Vital Grandin schools in St. Albert. Educational Assistant Theresa Barnes will be going to Legal and Billie-Jo Grant will be going to Vincent J. Maloney in St. Albert. Catherine Chan is leaving Notre Dame but it is not known where she will going at this time. Also leaving Notre Dame is Kym Shmyr and two pre-school teachers – Carrie Sleno and Nicole McDougall. – Lucie Roy Photo

Flowers for floods
Judy Sweeney was at Notre Dame School June 26 to buy some geraniums in aid of those affected by recent flooding. Notre Dame staff worker Elaine Zinger donated more than 300 plants, including tomato, herbs, strawberry plants and geraniums. She wanted to do something for the flood victims. The Flower for Floods Service Project will see proceeds above the cost of soil and pots donated to the Canadian Red Cross Flood Relief Fund. The plants were available on the last two days of school. – Lucie Roy Photo

Art on glass
Legal artist Jacques Martel was painting a window at the ACFA in time for the Canada Day celebrations. The pink is in keeping with Legal’s Pink Trail cancer fundraising project. – Lucie Roy Photo

Campaigns and caffein
Deputy Mayor Lisa Holmes held her campaign launch Wednesday evening at Higher Grounds Espresso Bar on 100 Avenue in downtown Morinville. The two-hour event allowed well wishers an opportunity to talk one-on-one with the mayoral candidate, who had some handouts available outlining her 2010 promises and accomplishments over the last three years – Stephen Dafoe Photo
