Battle Macchiato no trivial matter

Morinville – If you know where Wayne Gretzky was married, who the first Prime Minister of Canada was or how many Oscars Daniel Day-Lewis has won, then Battle Macchiato is an event you may not want to miss. The fancy title is the moniker given to a new Library Trivia Night offering being offered outside the library. The event will take place at Higher Grounds Espresso Bar Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. The Battle is the trivia portion, the Macchiatto, another name for the espresso coffee served at the local espresso bar.

Mornville Community Library Assistant Librarian Ian Roberton said the idea for the event came from Library Manager Isabelle Cramp who was looking to create an event that would be part fundraiser and part community outreach program.
“We’re going to be having four rounds of 10 questions. The team at the end of the evening who has answered the most answers correctly will win the evening and take all the glory,” Robertson said, adding teams may be comprised of no more than four people. People are welcome to act as a one-person team. Cost of the event is $10 per person.
The library has been speaking to local businesses for prizes for the event. The response has been positive. “The business have really come out and shown a lot of support for the evening,” Robertson said. “We’re hoping this can be an ongoing thing as a fundraiser every month.”

Good fit for library outreach efforts

The library has been working on adding more community outreach programs over the past six months. Roberton and co-organizer Kaitlin Erdmann see the Battle Macchiato evening as a good fit for the overall outreach initiative. “Libraries, essentially, are all about transmission of information, and trivia is just one aspect of that, Roberton explained. “It’s a great way for people to come out, have some fun, be a little competitive, and kind of show what they know. Not everybody is an expert at math or can run a marathon, but almost everybody knows a little something about something that no one else knows about. This is a great opportunity for those people to come out and shine and show what they know.”

Those interested in taking part can register at the Morinville Community Library. Registration deadlien is Jan. 30, but as space is limited, the library is encouraging people to register early. All proceeds from trivia night entree fees will go towards the Morinville Community Library’s various programs and services.
