Kings take on an army
Morinville King Kyle Sheehan goes after a CFB Edmonton player in front of the Kings net during Saturday night’s exhibition game. The Kings continued their tradition of honouring the military by inviting the garrison team for a game. CFB Edmonton kept the Kings off the board with a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period, but the Kings came back from a scoreless first and second period to pocket two in the final frame for a 2-1 win. The club’s regular season starts at home Oct. 17. Game time is 8:30 p.m.

Jets on the win
A Sherwood Park Knight pockets one on a break-away during the second period of Sunday night’s home game. After defeating the Leduc Riggers 4-1 Friday night on the road, the Jets fell 7-2 Sunday night. The club takes to the road Wednesday to face the Warriors and returns home Friday night to face the Royals. Game time is 8:30 p.m.

MCHS Wolves Grade 8-9 Volleyball Team Win SAPEC Tourney

On Sept. 25th-26th the Wolves participated in the St. Albert Physical Education Council Tournament. There were 16 teams from Spruce Grove, Sturgeon and St. Albert. The boys defeated a strong team from Westlock in the semi-final before beating Sir George Simpson 25-22, 25-19 in the final. The team travels to Fort Saskatchewan Oct.2 – 3 in their next tourney.
Derby registration coming
The Sturgeon County Junior Roller Derby Association is looking for boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 17 to join roller derby. No experience in the sport is necessary.
Practices run from October until June at Morinville Public School on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The association is holding a registration night and start up practice Oct. 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the school (10020-101 Avenue).

Town looking for rec centre input
The Town of Morinville has set up a public forum on their website at http://morinville.ca/index.php/arena-recreation-centre/building-our-future-forum to offer residents another opportunity to provide input and lear about the proposed arena / recreation project.
The site allows residents to submit comments on sponsorship, design, construction, overall site use, economic opportunities, and general comments. There is also a section on frequently asked questions and answers about the project.
The Town awarded the architectural contract for the project Sept. 15 and are set to meet with municipal leaders from other communities Oct. 15.
