The Alberta Foundation for the Arts Travelling Exhibition Program titled Dreaming with my
Great Mother is currently on display at the Musée Morinville Museum until Dec. 7.
The 20 pieces of canvas artwork are by three indigenous artists: Camille Louis (Maskwacis), Heather Shillinglaw (Daysland), and Carla Rae Taylor of (Yellowknife, NWT).
“The stories of our past are ripe with meaning,” reads the description of the show conceived by the three artists. “They often reflect life challenges that are faced by all people and hold the wisdom of our Elders, morals, and lessons that help us understand and lead our lives in responsible ways, informing us of possible pitfalls and preparing us to make healthy choices.”
As women, the artists say they strength from their close relationship to the land and with Great Mother Earth so they can “pass the great gift of her abundance and life-giving ways on to future generations.”
The Musée Morinville Museum is open noon until 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
