Morinville Jets two for two over the week

The Morinville Junior B Jets were two for two over the past week, earning two points in a forfeiture against the Edmonton Royals, and picking up another two points for a 6-3 win over the Spruce Grove Regals at home Sunday night.

Wednesday’s road game was an easy win. The other side did not have enough players, so the forfeit put 1-0 for the Jets to give them two points.

Sunday’s game took a little more effort, but not much more. The Jets came out strong in the first period, capitalizing three times on their 18 chances and keeping the Regals down to one goal for their seven opportunities. Leading 3-1 heading into the middle frame, the Jets picked up just one goal to Spruce Grove’s pair to lead 4-3. The last 20 had the Jets dominating the scoring, earning two while the Rewgals earned none.

The 6-3 win was built with four powerplay goals, two in the first and one each in the second and third periods. In total, the Jets cashed in on their man-advantages plays 36.4% of the time.

The Jets currently sit in third place, tied with the St. Albert Merchants with 21 points and 10-3-1 records. The Merchants have 87 goals for to Morinville’s 73, giving them second place in the CJHL’s Western Division.

Morinville Jet Blake Sydlowski sits in second place in the league with 33 points this season.

The club takes on the Stony Plain Flyers on Friday, Nov. 11 on the road and return home Tuesday, Nov. 13, to face the St. Albert Merchants. The game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Landrex Arena.
