Sturgeon County – The County will be pursuing some foreign investment after receiving some federal grant money to do so. Sturgeon County was recently awarded $7,650 from Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada to develop industry sector profiles to promote and sustain direct foreign investment in Sturgeon County.
Sturgeon County’s Manager of Economic Development, Kyle Reiling, said he is pleased with the award. ”The dollars will help ensure the continued growth and vitality of our region’s core industries by making investors aware of the range of business opportunities that exist within Sturgeon County,” he said in a release issued Tuesday. “Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada has clearly demonstrated foresight in supporting the capability of our region to stay globally competitive.”
With the grant monies, the County will develop comprehensive industry sector profiles clearly illustrating the region’s competitive advantages and the value proposition for prospective business investors in each of Sturgeon County’s target sectors: energy, agriculture and manufacturing. Pending the results of a target analysis, the sector profiles will be translated into two foreign languages, extending the County’s market reach beyond English-speaking nations. The profiles would then be available at trade events and conferences.
The County’s Economic Development Department will lead the project and work with business leaders, municipal officers and other supporting organizations with an anticipated target completion date of December 2012.
The grant comes from the Invest Canada-Community Initiatives (ICCI); one of the three components of the Global Commerce Support Program, designed in 2008 to help Canadian communities attract, retain and expand foreign direct investment.
