A packed gymnasium of students offered up oohs, awws, and laughter Wednesday afternoon during an educational performance by the Earth Rangers, an organization that has more than 175,000 young members across Canada.
Earth Rangers travel across the country to teach Grades 1 to 6 students about the impacts of climate change and other environmental issues, giving them the chance to take action by joining.
Lehigh Hanson Canada sponsored the Morinville stop Wednesday that had presenters and animal handlers Marc Cuda and Rebecca Rice simultaneously enthralling and educating young students with their information and animal friends.
“Earth Rangers are the kids’ conservation organization. Our goal is to inspire and educate children and their families about conservation, biodiversity, and endangered species,” explained Rebecca Rice. “For kids, protecting animals and our environment is a really big issue to them.
Rice said the reaction to the is always a positive one and that the interactive presentation with animals delivers the message in a more engaging way.
“As soon as we bring out the animal ambassadors, they light right up,” she said, adding many children do not get to see close up some of the animals they tour with.
Wednesday’s animal guests included a skunk, a Peregrine falcon, and an owl.
Children and their families can get involved by going to www.earthrangers.com and becoming official Earth Rangers Members. They will receive an official membership card.
