Two months after Council approved a Sponsorship Committee to help secure the town’s goal of $6,185,000 in sponsorship money for Morinville’s new $30,500,000 rec centre project, the Town is extending the deadline for seeking appointees to the committee.
Morinville could be coming close to its self-imposed debt limit of $25,133,097 if Council approves a $22,020,000 borrowing bylaw, which passed First Reading May 22. The bylaw presents a worst-case scenario of just over $22 million in borrowing for the roughly $30 million project.
Council has unanimously approved first reading of a new Temporary Borrowing Bylaw that will allow the Town to continue to finance the Rec Centre project. This law enables the Town to borrow up to $18,837,688 until long-term financing can be secured and finalized. […]

Council has unanimously passed First Reading of their 2017 Capital Plan, as well as their long-term plan update stretching to 2037. The Capital Plan outlines a budget for infrastructure spending for the municipality, as opposed to day-to-day expenses of running the Town outlined in the operational budget, which also received First Reading. Sturgeon County is throwing their hat in with the Town of Morinville to develop a business case for Morinville’s major new recreation centre project, following a unanimous Oct. 26 vote from Sturgeon County Council to develop a business case for the regional recreation centre together.
