Alberta Culture Minister visits Morinville

Morinville – Alberta Culture Minister Heather Klimchuk along with MLA Kubinec and Heritage Conservation Advisor Historic Places Stewardship Gary Chen toured cultural organizations in Morinville and Westlock on Thursday afternoon. In Morinville they visited the Rendez-Vous Centre, the church and Rectory, Musée Morinville Museum, and met with Rotary Club members at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. The meeting was held in the mezzanine, which displayed artwork. Artists Monty Johnson, Dolly Bolen and Judith Clarke were in attendance. Mayor Lisa Homes provided opening remarks at the cultural centre and Rotarians Jean Hodgins, Brian Reed, Monty Johnson, Simonne Chevalier and Rotary President Linda Kilian, spoke of numerous goals and projects under Rotary’s five avenues of service: Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service and New Generations.

Under the Community Service umbrella Rotary Assistant Secretary Chevalier spoke on the Rotary Splash Park, Pavilion, benches and tables, Rotary Park and Notre Dame Green Team. President Elect Reed spoke on the Pearse Memorial Playground at Namao School and Major Project Chair Joel Chevalier spoke of the Regional Recreation Facility. Under the International Service Jean Hodgins made a presentation of the Families of Hope Mexico and the complete commercial kitchen, the 2013 Japanese Exchange Summer Student and Exchange Student for 2014. Killian made the presentation Under new generations with the Interact, Rotoract Programs Adventures in Agriculture, technology, Citizenship, Rotary Youth Leadership and Rotary Youth Program of Enhancement. Morinville Festival Society Chair Paul Smith presented a $755 cheque to Rotary President Kilian.

After the presentations Cultural Centre Manager Laurie Stalker provided a tour of the CCC and the grand piano donated by the Rotary.
