The Town of Morinville is hoping residents will be as enthusiastic about celebrating German culture as they were last year when more than 300 came out to Oktoberfest to enjoy German entertainment, food and drink. The 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Celebration will take place at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre (MCCC) Oct. 3 from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Organizers say this year’s event will have a similar vibe to last year’s – free admittance, free food, and free entertainment. Additionally, attendees will be able to purchase some German beverages.

“We look forward to even more attendees this year, and to seeing numerous dirndls and lederhosen,” said Allen Jacobson, Morinville’s Community Development Coordinator, adding entertainment for the evening will include the Morinville Minstrels performing a German-English-French repertoire; Vinok Worldance, performing a German dance and group lesson; and the Brabec Brothers Bavarian Band, offering traditional Oktoberfest music.

But there is more than just beer hall entertainment at this year’s event. Children’s activities include German themed colouring books and crafts as well as a German-English sing-a-long with international recording/performing artist Barbara Meyer.

“This event is set up with the entire family in mind,” Jacobson said. “There truly is something for everyone at this German heritage celebration.”

Doors open Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. with children’s activities running until 7 p.m. when the opening ceremonies begin. Vinok world Dancers will perform at 7:30 and the Braybek Brothers will perform from 8 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
