The Morinville Jets opened their 2015-2016 season on a high note Sunday night with an 8-3 victory over the visiting North Edmonton Red Wings.
The Jets were the first on the board early in the first period and leading 2-0 up until the last four minutes of the frame. A Red Wings’ goal at 3:42 and another at 3:03 left the contest tied 2-2 heading into the second.
Though both clubs seemed evenly matched to start the second period, the Red Wings pulled ahead six minutes and change in to lead the contest 3-2. But that is where the Red Wings side of the board stopped.
With 8:05 left in the middle frame, the Jets tied the contest 3-3. The Jets would score another pair of goals as the period wound up. With 2:47 on the clock, Morinville Jet Brandon Debuc picked up his hat trick goal of the game, a goal that would not be his last.
Leading the Red Wings 5-3 at the start of the third, the final period saw the Jets pocket another three goals while keeping the Red Wings off the board.
The Jets have two games this week, a Friday night road trip to Leduc to take on the Riggers, and a Sunday night home-ice game against the Sherwood Park Knights. Game time is 6:45 p.m.
