Alexander First Nation ready for Pow Wow

Alexander First Nation will be holding its annual traditional Pow Wow July 2 – 4, an event that has traditionally drawn aboriginal dancers and drummers from all over to take part in the three-day event.

This year’s Pow Wow will see Douglas Bonaise as MC, Albert Dequaine as stickman and Kipohtakaw as host drum.

Smith Music students feed bellies and souls

Morinville – It was a music lover’s feast at Smith Music over the Father’s Day weekend. The school held its annual concert series – five shows over three days with the only price of admission being a donation to the local food bank.

Approximately 80 students and instructors performed for approximately ten hours, singing and playing their hearts out with tunes, many of which were composed before the students were born.

Gibbons band looking to Supernova

Gibbons – Five Sturgeon Composite students took to the stage for an important show at NAIT last Friday night, but they really won’t know just well it all went until the voting is tallied June 18.

Tyrant, a Gibbons-based metal band made up of Marshal Dexter on lead guitar, Mitchell Phin on rhythm guitar, Chase Stevenson on bass, Cody Nesbett on drums and singer Graham Beckett have been working their way through the rounds of Supernova’s Battle of the Bands competition in Edmonton.
