Mayor wants bitumen upgrading in region

Sturgeon County – With a catchy slogan and a serious economic message, Sturgeon County Mayor and Alberta Industrial Heartland Association (AIHA) Chair Don Rigney launched a new campaign last week in Edmonton to get people thinking about how much of Alberta’s raw bitumen is flowing south of the Canadian border. The Refine It Where We Mine It campaign and website seeks to educate Albertans about the importance of adding value to the province’s natural resources.

St. Albert seniors’ motor home found, couple still missing

Edson – RCMP report that a missing St. Albert couple’s motor home was found burned near the Minnow Lake campground outside Edson. The green and white 1999 Gulf Stream Sun Voyager had been engulfed in flames and was extinguished by the Edson Fire Department on July 5.

St. Albert RCMP report 79-year-old Lyle Thomas McCann and his wife Marie Ann McCann, 77, were last seen the morning of July 3 in St. Albert.

The jolly old elf and his friends will be participating in Santa’s Summer Party from 1 to 4 p.m. this Saturday, all part of the gardening centre’s 4th Annual Christmas Sneak Peek, running July 16-18.

St. Albert – RCMP have released two photos of two suspects in two separate incidents that occurred in the city last fall.

The first unsolved crime dates back to October 7-8, 2009. A male suspect entered an unlocked truck parked in a Sheridan Drive driveway.

Edmonton – Thorhild County received some good news from the province July 8. Alberta will be sending $10 million Thorhild’s way under the province’s Municipal Wildfire Assistance Program (MWAP). Sturgeon County teen killed in quad accident

Westlock – A 15-year-old Sturgeon County teen died over the weekend after being thrown from the ATV she was a passenger on.

Ashton Parrish had been one of three teens riding a quad in the Spruce Island Lake area, north of Westlock. Westlock RCMP report that the quad left the road and went off the trail, ejecting all three teens.
