Editorial: Council missteps on dropping rainbow crosswalks

Morinville won’t be quite as colourful this June as some of our Albertan neighbours following a discussion from Council that axed a proposal to paint a small Morinville crosswalk rainbow in honour of pride month. In place of this, Council unanimously passed a motion to raise a pride flag outside of Town Hall for some of June, in addition to an official proclamation from Mayor Lisa Holmes marking the occasion.

Council green-lights a new bike path

Council approved a small expense to mark a path along the east side of 100 Street next to the Morinville industrial park. The trail, intended for pedestrians and bikes, is based on a current path that exists in the same area, although it needs a bit of work resurfacing the trail and new paint markings.

Council resumes pedestrian traffic light for 107 Street

Council reviewed a report on installing traffic and/or pedestrian crossing lights at 107 Street and 100 Avenue at their May 9 meeting. The report came from Director of Public Works Claude Valcourt, and outlined a plan to either proceed with the original plan to install pedestrian crossing lights or to move ahead with a more expensive full set of traffic lights. Council unanimously voted to move ahead with the pedestrian crossing lights. […]
