Morinville – An Edmonton man will appear in court Sept. 14 to answer charges that he was driving 80 km/hr over the speed limit.
The 19-year-old, who is not being identified by RCMP, was stopped July 19 after a Morinville officer saw a vehicle heading southbound on Hwy. 2 near Township Road 572, travelling much faster than it should have been.

Morinville – The province is sending $70,000 the Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce way, grant money from the government’s Department of Tourism, Parks and Recreation that the local business group will use to fund a Regional Tourism Action Plan (RTAP).
Chamber President Sheldon Fingler said he was pleased but not surprised to receive the funding announcement from Barrhead-Morinville-Westlock MLA Ken Kowalski last week.

Mischievous in Bon Accord
The Bon Accord Food Town was a target for vandals between July 18 and 19. Morinville RCMP report that someone climbed up on to the roof of the grocery store and damaged the chimneys and other roof-top structures. Entry to the business was not gained and police say the damage to the roof structures was done to vandalize rather than an attempt to gain entry.

Legal – With its Salute to Protective Services theme, this year’s Fête au Village was the perfect opportunity to unveil the town’s 33rd mural, particularly since it pays homage to Canada’s military in general and bilingual Canadian peacekeeper Roméo Dallaire in particular.
The eight-foot by 20-foot mural, painted by Jacques Martel and unveiled Saturday morning, will be eventually installed near the town’s tourist booth, part of a proposed art park of Francophone murals.

Le Tour de l’ Alberta
The Edmonton and Bicycle Touring club will be descending on Morinville this Sunday for their annual Le Tour de l’ Alberta bike ride, a 20-, 50-, 100-, and 185-kilometre tour through various communities within Sturgeon County. Morinville – Although there is no limit to the colour combinations Steve and Denise Hunter can print in, the couple and their staff are shifting their focusing to green this week. Hunters Print & Copy in downtown Morinville is now an official recycling centre for ink and toner cartridges.
Denise Hunter said the business was recently approached by an Edmonton recycling firm who offered to come to Morinville to take empty ink and toner cartridges off their hands, an idea both she and Steve thought was a good one.

CFB Edmonton – With the installation of new playground equipment completed, three playgrounds were officially reopened July 20, a rejuvenation made possible through a $250,000 grant from Sturgeon County. The quarter million in funding was granted last fall through the County’s Capital Agricultural/Recreation Facility Development Grant (CARF), a five-year program started in 2006 to support leisure and fitness facilities in the hamlets, towns and city that make up Sturgeon County.

Legal – Residents of and visitors to the Town of Legal will have the opportunity to celebrate French culture this weekend as Fête au Village fills the streets and parks with activities July 23 and 24.
Although the annual “village celebration” pays homage to the culture and heritage of Legal’s French pioneers, it has become an excellent opportunity for friends and family to reunite in the streets.
