Pathfinders member Morgan Christopherson takes a donation for a poppy from Cathy Pellerin outside Tim Hortons Saturday. Members of the Cadets, Scouts, Girl Guides and Pathfinders were seen across town with their trays. Every year the Legion conducts the Poppy Campaign to honour those who served, and to raise funds to support veterans and their families. In Canada, the poppy has been the symbol of Remembrance since 1921. One of the reasons for the adoption of the poppy was the poem In Flanders Fields by Lt-Col. John McCrae. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the iconic poem. […]

Chamber picks its 2015 Business Award winners

It was an evening in China for local businesses Thursday night during the Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce’s annual Awards Night Gala. This year’s event sold more than 230 tickets, a 40 per cent increase in turnout over 2014’s event. The evening’s theme was a tribute to the Chamber’s recent business trip to China and included Chinese drummers and dancers as well as a Chines buffet by Chef Doug Adsit of The Green Bean. […]

Council passes Intermunicipal Committee Bylaw with County

At their Oct. 27 regular meeting, Council unanimously passed all three readings of an Intermunicipal Affairs Committee Bylaw, which aims to encourage greater cooperation between the Town and Sturgeon County.

Morinville Sobeys assists MCHS with two school initiatives

Morinville Community High School (MCHS) was the recipient of two cheques from Morinville Sobeys last week. Store owners Shaun and Susie Thompson presented the school with a cheque for $529.23 for the school’s Urban Agriculture program, and one for $1226.38 for the school’s HOWLS (Honour, Ownership, Welcoming, Leadership and Safety) program.
Franchise owner Shaun Thompson said they were happy to work with the schools and happy to help with the work being done there. […]

Edward Arthur Vallee continues to elude police and is believed to be hiding somewhere in north Edmonton. The 31-year-old man is wanted on several outstanding warrants, some of which relate to an incident wherein firearms were stolen.

The RCMP in Morinville responded to a break, enter and theft at Pipeline business near Gibbons, Alberta on Oct. 21, 2015 at approximately 5:30 a.m.

An employee reported a company truck and laptops had been stolen. RCMP were successful in locating the truck and recovering some of the laptops the same morning in a nearby field. […]
