Government of Canada funds St. Jean Baptiste Church project

Morinville – It was a big day for Father Ignacy Warius and members of St. Jean Baptiste Parish Tuesday afternoon. After several months of sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear about a grant to save the historic steeple, Westlock-St. Paul Member of Parliament Brian Storseth arrived at the church with the good news the federal government had approved their grant request. The church will receive $250,000 through a Western Diversification Grant, a federal program that is available to a maximum of $250,000. Morinville – The annual St. Jean Baptiste Festival will increase in size and scope in Morinville’s centennial year. That was the word from St. Jean Baptiste Committee Vice Chair Paul Smith Tuesday night.

Smith made a presentation to Morinville Town Council to bring them up to speed on what the committee of 30 volunteers are lining up for the summer festival which will run from Tuesday until Sunday this year.

Morinville – with just a few days to go before the start of what organizers are hoping will be the biggest and best St. Jean Baptiste Festival yet, tickets have just been printed for the latest add-on to the festival’s offerings.

Festival Committee member Tyler Edworthy said that 10,000 tickets have been printed and will be available for $1.00 each, giving festival goers a chance to win $5,000, an amount so large they are calling it “The Largest 50/50 Draw Ever.”
